Dr. Charlotte Binder

From 2014 until 2019 Dr. Charlotte Binder was employed as a research associate in the Unit for Intercultural Education at the University of Bremen.

In cooperation with researchers from Germany and Turkey, she carried out the research projects “Women’s Movements in Different Cities in Turkey" (2014-2017) and “Women’s and Gender Studies at Universities in Turkey” (2017-2019), which she designed significantly and which were financed by third-party donors.

A basis for the processing of these research projects was her PhD project completed in 2016. In her doctoral thesis, which was published in 2017, she analysed coalitions among women’s and gender-based political actors in the framework of the International Women’s Day – in comparison for Berlin and Istanbul – through an empirical study.

She earned a master’s degree in History and Cultural Studies (University of Bremen, 2009) and specialised in women’s and gender studies; higher education studies; social movement studies; contemporary Turkey studies; and qualitative research methods. In addition, she co-founded the researcher network “Intersectional Diversity Studies” (2012) at the University of Bremen.
