Barbara Johanna Funck works as a research assistant and Ph.D student in the Unit of Intercultural Education at the University of Bremen since 2015. In her PhD-project she works on access to the general school system in the context of migration. Recently she was entrusted with evaluative tasks in the project “Promotion of children and youth with migration background”, with a focus on long-term effects of the training for teachers. Before that she worked in a team focusing on problems encountered by undocumented migrant children in the process of registering into primary schools.

Before joining the department, Funck completed her M.A. in Social Policy at the University of Bremen with an actor-centered study of the local implementation of specific education policies funded by the German government. In 2011 she finished her B.A. in Social Sciences at the Philipps-University Marburg with an analysis of the social construction of illegality.

Additionally, Funck is a volunteer consultant in a counseling center for displaced persons and has experience in the field of youth education.
