Heterogeneity and Social Inequity / Educational Participation

Among the most significant challenges facing our educational system are those concerned with the manifold problem issues surrounding heterogeneity and social inequity. The reproduction of social inequity through education was a headline topic long before PISA. Manifested in early childhood, the phenomenon is a focus of research on school and school teaching. Among the dimensions of heterogeneity taken into account at the University of Bremen are aspects of social class, gender, culture/language, and disability. Besides the theoretical analysis of recognition and participation in contexts relevant for pedagogy, research in this area also concentrates on establishing foundations of pedagogy in inclusive education as well as educational research on migration and integration.  The area is supported by a number of evaluation and development projects dealing with the importance of specific research topics on different levels of the practice. Among others, these include both measures for specific target groups and support measures covering the various dimensions of heterogeneity (e.g. culture/language and disability).
